Dear Judy,
With our depressed economy and chaotic world, and with all the candidates promising change, how does a Christian know who to vote for? How do we know who to vote for when we feel none of the candidates is right for the job?
- Confused Voter

Dear Confused,
This is a question I have had to answer for myself. I have traveled overseas and each time I return to the USA, I say a prayer thanking God for this country. We still have so many liberties that other countries do not have. It’s true that these Christian liberties are being threatened each day, but I believe ours is still the greatest country on the planet! And every citizen, and Christians in particular, have the privilege and responsibility to have a voice in the political arena by choosing to vote.
All through Bible times, there have been upheavals in the political world so really nothing is new, except that we have the privilege to take part in the direction of this country. Truly we are living in the last of the last days. Upheaval in every area of life can be seen, and the political arena is just part of it.
Do your homework and learn all you can about each candidate and how he/she feels on the political issues. Then pray and seek the Lord. I believe the Bible gives us guidelines to follow when picking the right candidate. If the candidate does not line up with biblical guidelines, then choose the one who comes the closest to them.
I hear people say that they don’t like anyone of the candidates so they're just not going to vote. That is not an option when you live in a country where men and women have fought and many have given their lives to give us this right to vote and keep us free! So go vote for the one that comes the closest to our Christian values. Then pray for whoever is elected, that God will guide them in the best ways to lead this wonderful country of ours. 1 Timothy 2:1 & 2 says, "Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, 2for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence."
All through the Bible we can see where an ungodly king was used by God to bless His people. We also see throughout the Bible that God's people would go into captivity from time to time, and had ungodly people running the country. God still blessed His people and kept them through it all if they kept their eyes on Him and did not compromise their belief. He will do the same for us now.
I do believe we live in a time as never before that we must look to the Bible for help, comfort, and guidance. David wrote in Psalm 24:1, "The earth is the Lord's, and all its fullness."
Remember that this government is only temporary because the Bible tells us in Revelation 11:15 that the day is coming when "The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!" Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given, and the government will be upon His shoulder, and His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of peace."
This world system will be done away with at the return of Jesus Christ to this earth, but until that time, He has given to us the privilege as Americans to stand up with biblical principles and have our voice heard through our VOTE. Whatever the outcome of the election, we can rest assured that we held up our responsibility, and then we must move into the position of prayer as God has instructed every Christian to do for this country and the people in it.
