March 2010 - One Man, One Woman—Only?

03/01/2010 09:31 AM

Dear Judy,

Why is the Church so uptight and opposed to same sex marriages? Everyone’s entitled to love wherever they can find it, aren’t they? As long as two people love each other, what's the big deal?

Dear Big Deal,

The big deal is that God put the family in order as man and woman, not man and man or woman and woman. People are trying to take God out of the family order and do their own thing.

Homosexuality is not something that has just appeared in this century. It was birthed way back in the Garden of Eden at the fall of man, the same as every other sin. Sin separates us from God, and always has. This is why God hates sin so much—he yearns for a relationship with mankind. God hates the sin, but loves the sinner.

Unfortunately some churches are sending a mixed message to people, especially to our youth, by ordaining homosexual ministers and supporting same sex marriage. It’s a mixed message because churches that claim to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ are supposed to live by the Bible and teach their people to do the same, and the Bible is clearly against homosexuality!

Here are a few Scriptures for reference. Paul is very clear in Romans 1:18-32 about why and how homosexuality came about. Read these verses for yourself because I do not have room in this column to print all of it. Starting with verse 26, “. . . for their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error . . . .”

1 Corinthians 6:9,10: “Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.”

The Bible is very clear about sexual immorality and its penalty, and how it affects so many of those around us.

A person who does not believe in the Creator might not consider homosexuality a big deal, but I know many non-Christians who think it is a big deal. A man and woman join together to produce babies and sexually they fit! God ordained sex to be within the bonds of marriage, yes for pleasure, but more importantly, to reproduce mankind, and same-sex couples cannot do this!

The Bible clearly says that God formed man and from man’s side brought forth woman. It also says that man should leave his father and mother and be joined with his wife, and they shall become one flesh (read Genesis chapter 2).  After sin entered the world, this wonderful gift of marriage started to be perverted by the devil. Later in Genesis 2 whole cities were destroyed because of sexual perversion. Marriage is not just about love, but about obedience to the Word and to the Almighty God who created marriage and family. I hope this helps you see why biblical marriage between one man and one woman is not just a Big Deal—it’s the Only Deal.
