February 2010 - Peace or Ulcer - It's Your Choice!

02/07/2010 11:45 AM

Dear Judy,

I’ll admit, I think I’m getting an ulcer from worrying that Social Security might not be there for me when I get older. What’s going on with our country? It’s like we’re in orbit, spinning out of control. Maybe I’m naïve but I can’t imagine why anyone would think spending money we don’t have could help our economy. My biggest concern is for my children. What kind of country will this be when they graduate high school or college? I sound like I’m bashing the current presidency, but it isn’t that. I was 100% opposed to President Bush’s decision to bomb Iraq too. Look where that’s gotten us. Why is it so hard to get a man or woman into the Oval Office who’s economically savvy, makes wise decisions, has our country’s best interests in mind, and has moral integrity?

Dear Disillusioned,

I don’t know if you own a Bible, but if not you need to get one. For sure you’ll have ulcers if you look at everything going on in our country and world without God’s perspective. Look at it through the understanding of the Word of God and you will have peace. Peace or an ulcer— it’s your choice!

No one but God knows what the future holds. My husband and I are both receiving Social Security and we would sure be hurting if it went belly up. But if it did, we know the Lord would take care of us. Our security and hope is not in the systems of this world.

Outside of the Bible we can find no answers for the many troubles in our world. Matthew, one of Jesus’ apostles, wrote about all the tragedy that is coming or going to come to this world. Verse 6 & 7 says, "And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places." (Matthew 24: 6,7).

All of this is going on right now! Right in the middle of these verses Jesus tells us NOT TO BE TROUBLED.  If He says this about famines, pestilence, and earthquakes, then I do believe He is telling us the same thing about the Social Security system.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you", Jesus assured us as Matthew reported in chapter 6, verse 33. I read this verse and see comfort and peace because all the things added to me are whatever I need to live this life. I just have to put my priorities in order seeking the creator first and then the creator takes care of His creation!

The Bible tells us over and over NOT to worry and NOT to be afraid! I challenge you today to dig deep into the Word of God to know your Creator so you know that no matter what happens, He will take care of you. Your first priority, of course, is to make sure you ARE His child!
