Christians involved in politics?

Dear Judy,

Should Christians be involved in politics or political discussions? I am in a dilemma.

Dear Dilemma,

Well, this is truly a great question because seems like everywhere we look, something is being said about this 2024 election. You say involved. That is a complicated word with many meanings, and most with negative connotations. If you are referring to being a US citizen and caring about the outcome of the elections, that kind of involvement is good. But how involved should we be?

Most definitely, we MUST VOTE! It’s a shame, the number of Christians who do not vote. Christians have a voice with their vote. I tell people, If you do not vote, you can’t gripe about the outcome! We are privileged to live in this country, and we have a responsibility to vote. Our voting (and prayer) can help turn our country back to the principle found on our coins—IN GOD WE TRUST!

How do we vote? Well, for the person who is going to do the best for the country! Where does he (or she) stand on biblical principles? We may not like everything about the person, but if he is closer to biblical values than his opponent, then vote for him. The same applies not just for the president, but for all government officials.

Remember, becoming involved in politics is complicated. Be concerned about politics, yes, even be in discussions if you want. Help in some ways, yes. Vote, yes! But to get involved or deeply entrenched in politics, I say not a good idea. Not unless you are called by God to run for an office.

Once we cast our vote, then move on. Every candidate will be accountable before God in how they live (as we all will be one day!). If a Christian runs for a political office, they will be the light in the darkness, because politics is full of lies and deceit. We want to pray that they stand strong for Christ and His Word which is our manual for success!

We must faithfully pray for those in leadership. Remember, we are just passing through this life and want to do our best for our Lord. The Bible says, For all that is in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--is not of the Father but is of the world. (I John 2:16) Let’s stay out of these pitfalls! And be sure to pray much for our November elections!

This is not a natural concept but a spiritual one and is only understood from our manual for success, the Bible! To be hidden in Christ, you must be born again or if you prefer, born from above!

We are pilgrims just passing through here to our eternal home, but during this journey we have a purpose and plan from our God to complete. Set before us are many paths with many gates. We choose which ones we open. We are not robots. We have a free will.

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.
