Missing out?

Dear Judy, I don’t do Facebook or really any social media. Many of my friends are often talking about what they read on Facebook and how they knew things about people and how they keep up with so many people. I sometimes feel I am missing out on something, like I’m an outsider. But I just don’t have time (nor desire!) for it. What do you think?

Dear Not Missing Out!

I too am not on Facebook. Does it have good in it? Yes! Was it intended for good? I do believe so. I simply do not have time to spend on Facebook. I also have seen people use it as a sounding board, or to give their opinion on politics, ethics, and so on. It riles people up and causes division and strife.

Truly Facebook has been abused and misused. It is used to bully others who would not have been bullied if they had not been on it at all. I also believe it should be monitored more closely and where children are concerned, not be on it at all.

I know people who have to get up in the middle of the night to check their texts or Facebook. That is an ADDICTION! I was once addicted to alcohol. I needed that drink and then more drinks to get through the day. But deep down, I needed something far beyond that. I read the scripture in John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. I knew I was in the world and I was so perishing because of addiction! I wanted to be free and I wanted life! So I am now addicted to living my life for the One who gave His for me, JESUS!

An addiction is to have a very strong desire or need for something. I suppose if a person can control his use of Facebook and Facebook does not control him, then I do not see anything wrong with it. If you ever decide to use social media or Facebook, remember what I tell people: Say it; forget it. Write it; regret it! Always keep Jesus above it all! When one uses Facebook, think of what Jesus would do and say. Hope this helps.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

Woman covering her eyes

Everywhere we look, so many people are going through horrible things. Every time I take a hot shower, the Lord brings to my mind how many people have no water at all! Bad weather and fires have destroyed so many lives. People without the Lord have no hope. But those who have received Jesus as their personal Savior and are trusting HIM and His Promises found in their manual for success (the Bible) – they have hope!

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?
