Not sure
Dear Judy,
What is the point of reading the Bible? It is so hard to understand.

Dear Not Sure,
I got born again reading the Bible! Some Christians say that to understand the Bible, we have to already be saved because, before being saved, we do not have the person of the Holy Spirit living in us to help us. This is simply NOT true! True, we do not have the Holy Spirit, but not true that we cannot understand it. Let me explain.
I am a product of biblical truth. I went from hating God to giving my whole heart to HIM! I started reading in Genesis and when I got through the last book of Revelations, I was in love with Jesus Christ and with the author of the whole Bible, the Holy Spirit, who was living in me. I am now 33 years preaching and declaring to others that Jesus died on the cross for them, rose from the dead, and is alive for them!
Hebrews 4:12 says For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And Romans 10:9 says… that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. I did just that, I believed! Believing is not mental assent but having confidence and trusting in this very powerful truth. Saved means delivered, protected, healed, preserved, do well, be made whole.
You say you find it hard to understand the Bible. I suggest you get a good study Bible. I like the Spirit-filled New King James Version because it explains most of what you need right in it. I am thinking you have given your heart to the Lord and are living for Him. If so, you need to know what you have and how to live. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2) Allow the Holy Spirit to give you understanding as you read.
Transform means to change from worldly thinking and ways to Jesus thinking and ways. Without reading the Word daily, we will stay in worldly thinking because we won’t know anything different. Church is very important, but how do you know you are being taught truth if you do not know the truth of the Bible? You can be led astray and deceived if you are not reading and obeying the only manual for success (Bible) that a child of God has! I hope this encourages you to keep reading the Word and asking the Holy Spirit to give you understanding.
