Dear Judy,

What does it mean to be saved? Saved from what?

Dear Searching,

Your question leads me to believe you are not a Christian. To be saved means being rescued from sin and spiritual death through faith in Jesus Christ, receiving forgiveness, and receiving eternal life with God. You may have read or heard the verse in John 3:16: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

I encourage you to get a Bible and start reading from the beginning in Genesis where it tells how God created all things. The first man and woman were created perfectly and given instructions. Short version… they went against God’s instructions, so they fell into sin and were cast out of the beautiful garden they had been overseeing for God.

As a result, the sin problem is in all of humanity, but God had a plan. He sent Jesus to earth in the form of a man to right the wrong! I got saved reading the Bible and so can you! We need to believe which is not mental assent! It is having unwavering confidence in something.

Ephesians 2:8-9 says For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Grace is divine enablement with unmerited favor. We are saved only by the grace of God. It is a FREE gift to us.

Saved means to deliver, protect, heal, preserve, do well, be (make) whole. It is wonderful to live in this understanding. We cannot work our way to heaven! Romans 10:9 ,10 says that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Jesus came to earth to die on the cross taking our sins upon himself, paying the price for our sin and setting us free from sin and pain, sickness, diseases, poverty and anything that goes with darkness. Then, three days later, He rose from the dead and is alive and well sitting at the right hand of the Father interceding for us!

When we confess our sins and truly trust and have confidence in this truth, we become born from above and a totally new creation! We become a child of God and are in the kingdom of God and no longer in the kingdom of darkness. We are in this world but not of it.

I hope this answers your questions and leads you to take the steps to become all that God purposes for you to be—His very own child allowing Him to direct your steps.

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they(you!) may have life, and that they(you) may have it more abundantly. (John 10:10)

We are living in very serious times! It is important that we take an account of our heart. Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to search our heart and expose any hidden place of unforgiveness or offense. If we hang onto those and do not repent, we are the only one chained and we leave a door cracked

These times in which we live, we must be very careful and watchful because they are perilous times. The Apostle Paul teaches us this with amazing clarity in 2 Timothy 3:1-5: But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud

I want us to think about where our focus is. This is very important in these last of the last days! Do we have one foot in the world and the other in the Kingdom of God? If so, we are in BIG trouble because we are not surrendering all we are to Jesus Christ.
