Seeker

Dear Judy, I want this to be a “God year” with me following our Lord and not people or myself. I sure have trouble with being a self-pleaser and people-pleaser. Do you have any words of wisdom to help me?

Dear Seeker,

I am glad you are wanting to follow the Lord all the way by only pleasing Him. When we do that, we will not be a self-pleaser or people-pleaser. We are to not be following our emotions; rather, the Holy Spirit will guide us from within. That is His job. Everything we need for help is found in our manual for success – the Bible. There can be no success outside of that most wonderful book. It shows us how what we choose affects our life, and not only ours but other people’s lives too.

If you do not know where to look in your Bible, just look in the back to the Concordance. Find what you need help with and turn to that Scripture and read it; then do it! That is following the Lord. If your Bible does not have a Concordance, get a different Bible.

I looked up “wisdom” in my Concordance and it led me to James 1:5: If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. This tells me that if I need wisdom in a situation or in making a decision, all I have to do is ask God and He will help me!

The Bible also tells us how to be led, and that is not by self or by people, but by the Holy Spirit. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God (Romans 8:14-15).

Following people or self is an emotional response, but being led by the Spirit of God is spiritual. The Spirit of God will always lead us to the path Jesus wants us to take. So make a determination to be led by the Holy Spirit this year and your path will be the right path every time. Hope this helps!

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

Everywhere we look, so many people are going through horrible things. Every time I take a hot shower, the Lord brings to my mind how many people have no water at all! Bad weather and fires have destroyed so many lives. People without the Lord have no hope. But those who have received Jesus as their personal Savior and are trusting HIM and His Promises found in their manual for success (the Bible) – they have hope!

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?
