Wondering

Dear Judy,

The Bible says we will be accountable for every word we speak. Does that include the songs we sing?

Sincerely,

Wondering from Louisiana

Dear Wondering,

The issue of the words coming out of our mouth is huge. We can love the Lord and be serving Him and still speak the wrong words which will truly hurt us. Why would singing be any different? Our mouth is singing so to me that is just speaking with a melody attached to it. No different.

The Bible is very clear about our mouth and the consequences of what we speak! Proverbs 18:21 says Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. This is pretty clear and whether we speak or sing, it’s the same consequence. “According to your faith” is what we speak! So if we do not read our Bible, we have no idea what the will of the Lord is or even who He is or what we have as Christians!

When the words of a song come up on the screen or singing from a song book, if the words do not match what is in the Bible, I do not sing it, just as I would not speak it. When we sing, we are singing unto the Lord. There is nothing but faith in our Lord which is the God of the impossible.

Some people suffer loss because they speak loss or sing a song with words that are not true to our Lord and who He is. You are snared by the words of your mouth; You are taken by the words of your mouth. (Proverbs 6:2) Sometimes we blame too much on the devil and not enough on the words we speak or sing.

The Bible is very clear about how instrumental our mouth is in our life. It can bring wisdom to overflow in all areas of our life. Proverbs 18:4: The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook. As we live our life here on this earth, we are accountable for every word we speak. Those around us need us to be singing and speaking correctly about what the Lord has done and is doing and is going to do.

So to answer your question, yes, we are accountable.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand. (The word of God) (Psalm 149:6)

This is not a natural concept but a spiritual one and is only understood from our manual for success, the Bible! To be hidden in Christ, you must be born again or if you prefer, born from above!

We are pilgrims just passing through here to our eternal home, but during this journey we have a purpose and plan from our God to complete. Set before us are many paths with many gates. We choose which ones we open. We are not robots. We have a free will.

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.
