Confused

Dear Judy, Can you explain the spirit of Jezebel? I am always confused by this when people talk about it at my church?

Dear Confused,

First of all the word “Jezebel” comes from the OT story of Queen Jezebel back in the days of Elijah. She was a ruling queen at that time and she had killed in cold-blood many of God’s prophets during her rule. There is only one devil, one Satan, but there are many spirits. These evil spirits have a particular type of personality and a specific way in which they like to operate. The term, “Jezebel spirit,” is because of the nature of its personality and the way it operates once it sets up shop on someone.

The Apostle Paul helps us to understand this concept in Ephesians 6:10-12 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord…… For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. The heavenly places here is the atmosphere around us. This shows us that demonic spirits have different levels of authority just as the heavenly angels do.

Look at Jezebel’s personality. She was prideful, cunning, domineering, deceiving, intimidating, causes fear, a murderer, and was a master at wanting her own way at all times. So a spirit of Jezebel means this spirit can take on all these different personality traits found in Queen Jezebel of the O.T. Be very clear Christians cannot be possessed with a demonic spirit because all believers are filled with the Holy Spirit but they can be demonized or influenced by these very powerful spirits.

Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions which can and will be controlled or influence either by the world or by the Bible. It is very clear in Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. When we do not allow the word of God to change our soulish realm, we will be prime targets for the spirit of Jezebel to use us. Sad to say many read the Bible but do not obey it. They do exactly what they want to when they want to. Followers of Christ cannot do that. If they do, in time, they become a problem taking on the spirit of Jezebel in our fellowships instead of being a blessing.

I also want to say this spirit attaches to both male and female. Humility and not wanting our own way is a safe haven for all Christians.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

Everywhere we look, so many people are going through horrible things. Every time I take a hot shower, the Lord brings to my mind how many people have no water at all! Bad weather and fires have destroyed so many lives. People without the Lord have no hope. But those who have received Jesus as their personal Savior and are trusting HIM and His Promises found in their manual for success (the Bible) – they have hope!

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?
