Believer

Dear Judy, A woman is reaching out to me to help her through some hard steps in her marriage! She is not a Christian, but knows I am a strong believer. Well, I am sure not a marriage counselor…. Any ideas on what I can say to help her?

Dear Believer,

I think this is wonderful that the Holy Spirit is sending someone your way for help. You carry the light of the Lord Jesus Christ which penetrates the darkness. If a person is not saved, then all they have is darkness, and this person reaching out sees Jesus in you. She needs help and you have the hope and help – Jesus! I have experienced something of this woman’s pain when a marriage is failing and no answers in how to fix it. Secular marriage counselors give secular answers that have no true foundation.

You be who she knows you are and that is the person she is reaching out to. The first step to this meeting is to be prayed up and go knowing what God wants. We know that our Lord wants all marriages to be whole and healthy. We also should know and understand Malachi 2:16: “For the LORD God of Israel says that He hates divorce.” I do not have room to go into all the reasons of the why in this Scripture, but if they have children, it causes great hurt, despair and scars in the children, whether the parents are saved or unsaved. I am talking in general of course.

People have many different reasons to get a divorce, but probably the most common is that they have simply grown apart and are going separate ways. So as you talk with her, just be yourself… which is that you are a new creation in Christ with a new way of thinking. The basis for all your decisions are found in the Word of God. Your friend must want her marriage to be healthy or she would not have called you, and that is a positive. Give her the foundation she needs to cause that to happen. His name is Jesus! The Holy Spirit will help you with the words.

That is a question often asked by new believers. The Bible is very clear about this. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Many people are confused by this question. But before I answer it, I want to make clear that there is a real heaven and a real hell! Everyone goes to one place or the other—their choice! So, no, everyone does not go to heaven, but everyone will go somewhere when they die.

So many horrible things are happening in our world today—children and adults gunned down in the middle of prayer, lives being destroyed by wars, famines, floods, fires, absolute madness– and if we allow ourselves to focus totally on these things, fear can totally take over and then we will become victims instead of a v

We are eternal beings, and we shall live for eternity somewhere! If we think we are saved, we are not! We must KNOW without a shadow of a doubt that we are born from above and have both an earthly address and a heavenly address. This is done by accepting Jesus as our Savior and living for HIM!

I see so many believers focusing on world events and the despair in our world. That may well be a focus for the unbeliever but certainly not for a believer! If we read our manual for success (Bible) and obey what it is teaching us, then we will have all our focus on Jesus and the cross! Jesus did everything for us on t
