First Things First

Dear Judy, Setting aside time to be with the Lord is not easy for me. I'm just too busy. I seem to be coming and going all the time. Something is always pulling on me, putting me on edge and short with others! I don’t think this is how I’m supposed to be living, but it’s how it is for me.

Dear Edged,

You are making a choice not to set aside time for the Lord. This is a huge mistake. When we are too busy for the Lord, we are too busy. We all have the same about of time in our day. Jesus says in Matthew 6:33-34: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Seek means to search, and first means before all else. Nothing comes before first! You must be a Christian or you would not even think of setting time aside for the Lord! This Scripture tells us that as we put the Lord and His kingdom first, we will learn to handle life, one day at a time.

Christians belong to a different kingdom where God is the King. He knows we have to work and make money to live. He knows too that people will pull on us for help, but we cannot help others if we cannot help ourselves. The only way we will help ourselves is by seeking what is in the Kingdom of God. His righteousness is His wisdom in every situation. When we get His thoughts and His plans on how to do something, we will be clear in thought and not pulled in all directions. This is only possible as we pray and read His Word. His Word is our manual for success in this life.

People who do not read the Bible do not know their authority or their benefits! That is sad! When we set time aside for this before we start our day, we have the correct directions for our day. Some read and pray at night because of their schedule, and have directions for the next day. You cannot live by any other book and succeed in His kingdom which has the only eternal answers for everything. Anything other than His answers will just be temporary! Start today seeking Him first and see how stable and content your life becomes which will lead you to be patient and understanding with others. Your example will hopefully lead them to also seek first the kingdom of God.

Well, let me start with the most important thing you bring up. I noticed the word I THINK in your question. Just because you go to church does not mean you are a born-again believer.

Everywhere we look, so many people are going through horrible things. Every time I take a hot shower, the Lord brings to my mind how many people have no water at all! Bad weather and fires have destroyed so many lives. People without the Lord have no hope. But those who have received Jesus as their personal Savior and are trusting HIM and His Promises found in their manual for success (the Bible) – they have hope!

Have you ever thought about the word “wilderness” and what that means for the Christian and the non-Christian? To be a Christian we must believe—which is to trust and have confidence that Jesus Christ died on the cross for the sins of the world and rose again! Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

STAY WATCHFUL! I am sure we can all agree, 2025 started off with much tragedy and woe! Terrorist attacks killing many, devastating fires in the LA area, a horrible plane and helicopter collision, and another plane crash two days later! Many families in mourning. Truly, the devil is out to steal, kill, and destroy, and sadly, he’s doing a good job at it. But remember, our Lord is far greater than the devil, and He is ultimately in control.

Christianity 101—Life with God after Salvation We are living in very tough times that are only getting harder. As followers of Jesus, we should be strong in the Lord and full of faith, experiencing the God of the impossible. But are we? Jesus said in Matthew 19:26, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” I believe Jesus is looking at us and our fellowships and asking if we truly believe this. Are we living this Scripture out to a watching world?
