God Works in Messes
Dear Judy, I have people say to me that if I have faith in the Lord Jesus Christ that it will produce obedience to the things God wants me to do or become. I do love the Lord but I also doubt and like to do things my way. As a result, I’ve really messed up my life. You see, I’m a teenager and am pregnant! I have repented to my parents and they are helping me. What are your thoughts?
Dear Messed Up,
I do know that obedience and blessings do not just fall in our lap. Faith has a lot to do with whether we receive the blessings of God. However we must be obedient to the things of God. If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land (Isaiah 1:19). Faith is our belief system. We will believe either the word of God which is always for our higher good, or our self which always wants its own way, or the devil who will always be against the word of God and wants to destroy us.
The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (John 10:10). We choose who we want to follow—God, ourself, or the devil. The one we choose is the one we will obey. Which one has our best interest at heart?
With you pregnant you obeyed self which said I want this experience with a man. By obeying yourself instead of the word of God that says DO NOT FORNICATE, you now have a baby on the way who needs you to choose correctly to raise him or her correctly. Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication…. Galatians 5:19.
Our Lord works in messes and because you knew you were disobedient and repented to your parents and hopefully the Lord, now you are obedient to what God says and your faith led you to obey His word. You need to thank the Lord for godly parents who will help you raise this child. The Lord also will bless you with the help you need to live your life and teach your child to live for the Lord. You can help others to stay out of the way of disobedience to the word of God, and testify to the fact it will always cause distress!
Disobedience to God always brings consequences. Your life will not be easy. You will have to grow up very fast now. Many of your plans for your future will be put on hold because you will now be responsible for this baby and his or her future. Notice I said put on hold, not over. Jeremiah 29:11 says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
Get serious with the Lord and He will help you with everything you are going to face. You get serious by reading His word and praying to Him for guidance each day; then do it His way. The LORD has heard my supplication; The LORD will receive my prayer. Psalm 6:9
