Breathless

Dear Judy,

How do I get rid of all this anxiety this time of year? At times I feel so much pressure and confusion, it takes my breath away.

Dear Breathless,

I am going to assume you are a Christian writing me about this because only followers of Jesus have an antidote for anxiety this time of year, or any time of the year. You are not alone. It affects far too many Christians.

Our manual for success (the Bible) has the answer to this issue. Jesus clearly instructs us in Matthew 6:25-34. He says do not worry “but seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”(verse 33) Then comes the last do not worry where He explains why we should not worry. He says in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” We are to handle one day at a time and not allow all the what ifs to come into our thoughts. This is a command of Jesus! We cannot be in faith and worry at the same time.

If we do not repent of our worries and fears, then anxiety appears! Paul says in Philippians 4:6, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” If we do not get this handled here and now, then anxiety drops into our heart and depression hits.

“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” (Proverbs 12:25)

I urge you to be aware of the process and stop it early on so that worry does not become anxiety in your mind. Remember, if it is not stopped, it drops into the heart! It doesn’t matter what time of year or what the issue is, we handle it all the same. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand what decisions are eternal and which are temporary. Do not allow the worldly perspective to control you. Look up and stay focus on Jesus and His perspective today and every moment. This will set you free and you will be breathless for HIM and His ways only.

I go to church, and I also listen to services online. It seems to me there is a trend toward thinking that hell is not real. Is this true? Is there a real hell?

That is a question often asked by new believers. The Bible is very clear about this. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Many people are confused by this question. But before I answer it, I want to make clear that there is a real heaven and a real hell! Everyone goes to one place or the other—their choice! So, no, everyone does not go to heaven, but everyone will go somewhere when they die.

This article is titled Food for Thought so why don’t we give some thought to our walk with the Lord as we close this year out. What have we learned from this year? What things do we want to change and not take into the coming year?

We need to rise in gratefulness and thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior. We need to praise Him more than we ever have. Like no other time has it been more important that we be in our manual for success, the Bible. We need to know for a fact that if we should die today, we are going to heaven. Heaven and Hell are real,

So many horrible things are happening in our world today—children and adults gunned down in the middle of prayer, lives being destroyed by wars, famines, floods, fires, absolute madness– and if we allow ourselves to focus totally on these things, fear can totally take over and then we will become victims instead of a v
