Temporal or Eternal?
This article is titled Food for Thought so why don’t we give some thought to our walk with the Lord as we close this year out. What have we learned from this year? What things do we want to change and not take into the coming year? Actually, we need to bring this question into our life each moment of each day!

If we call ourselves followers of Jesus, we should be focused on eternal things and not temporary things. We should be focused on serving and giving instead of being served and getting! Jesus said in Matthew 20:28, “Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Jesus came to earth to GIVE. He gave His life for all humanity, but sadly, many do not accept this precious gift!
When we call ourselves Christians, we are not to serve money, but money is to serve us so we can sow into others’ lives. Many people are focused on the grandeur of stuff, always wanting more and more. Jesus is very clear when he said in Luke 12:15: “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Take heed and beware are sure words of caution from our Lord and Savior because He knows this is an issue with people, including believers!
Another warning from Jesus is Matthew 6:24: “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Jesus would not give us these stern warnings if it were not possible for His children to get caught up in them! He is talking to believers, not unbelievers! Most often, pride is right in the middle of all this. Remember, Jesus resists the proud, which is huge!
Our manual for success (Bible) gives us all the instructions we need to stay victorious. When reading it, let’s allow the Holy Spirit to correct us! No point in reading it if we are not going to obey it. While checking our motives each moment of each day, let us purpose in our heart to change what needs changed to help us become more like Jesus. Ask Jesus to help us take only good habits into the new year, and keep focused on eternal goals!
