Scared One

Dear Judy, My Christian neighbor follows prophecy and tells me about things like the 4 Blood Moons (we saw the last one, the 4th, this fall) and that big trouble that will come to our nation right after that. She also says most prophecy has been fulfilled that is supposed to be before Jesus' return. I hear that our country is pushing for a national ID number and if we don't have one, we can't buy or sell or work, etc. Can you throw any light on these scary thoughts? Should I be stocking my shelves with non-perishable food?

Dear Scared One,

You said your neighbor is a Christian and I am going to answer your question as if you are also a Christian. I too, as most Christians, hear all that your neighbor is telling you, and is it true? Well, only time will release that knowledge to us. We can listen to many different opinions concerning all of these things. Some people really push that we need to stock up on food for the last-day events, and there is no harm in doing that. It may even be wise. But it is our job to get in the Bible for ourselves and see what it says. When we get into our “manual for success,” we read that for His children, “No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling” (Psalm 91:10). And in Proverbs 12:21, “No grave trouble will overtake the righteous.” These are two of many promises that belong to the child of God. This is not saying trouble will not come, but will not come near or overtake us.

Are things coming to this earth that are not good? Yes, of course and they are here right now. We live in a fallen world, but Jesus came and gave His life for those who would accept Him as their Savior to take away their sin and cause them to have authority over the evil and help others.

Jesus said in Matthew 5:13, “You are the salt of the earth” and in Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:16: “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” This makes it clear that as a Christian we are to bring flavor and light to the people living in a very dark world. We have a job to do and we cannot do that if we are scared or afraid of the future and what it might bring our way.

We can be assured that every promise is the Bible belongs to us and whatever does come our way, our Lord will help us get through it. One of my favorite verses, John 10:10, says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I (Jesus) have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” I focus on trusting and believing my God, the one who created me and all things; then I always know and can say ALL IS WELL WITH MY SOUL…..

I go to church, and I also listen to services online. It seems to me there is a trend toward thinking that hell is not real. Is this true? Is there a real hell?

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.

This article is titled Food for Thought so why don’t we give some thought to our walk with the Lord as we close this year out. What have we learned from this year? What things do we want to change and not take into the coming year?

We need to rise in gratefulness and thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior. We need to praise Him more than we ever have. Like no other time has it been more important that we be in our manual for success, the Bible. We need to know for a fact that if we should die today, we are going to heaven. Heaven and Hell are real,
