Seeking God

Dear Judy, I'm a believer and read my Bible fairly regularly, pray and attend church. For a long time now, I have been praying for direction about some important matters in my life. But I get no inkling of “this is the way, walk ye in it.” Why can't I hear from God? What am I doing wrong?

Dear Seeking One,

The direction you are going is correct. Reading your Bible, praying and attending church is most important. Why? It keeps your eyes on the things of God more than the things of the world. Change and direction are tough on us because we do not want to make a mistake. When I’m making an important decision, I can allow my soulish realm (mind will emotions) to guide me. When I do that, I have allowed my feelings to guide me. My way trumps God’s way!

Here are some Scriptures I use to help me know what God wants me to do.

  1. I follow what the Apostle Paul says in Romans 8:13: For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. I am a child of God so I allow the Holy Spirit to lead me, not Judy or people to lead me. He will lead me by His Word and the Spirit within me.
  2. Isaiah tells us in 52:12, “For you shall not go out with haste, Nor go by flight; For the LORD will go before you, And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.” Sometimes we like to outrun the Lord with our own plans which come from our emotions. We never have to do anything in haste except obey God.
  3. When I hear, Judy you have to make a decision right now or you will lose this opportunity, this is a huge red flag for me. Now I apply Psalm 46:10: Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!
  4. Waiting is so tough because we live in a microwave society. I want it now. I need to decide now! Not so with God. While I am waiting I will not move on any decision until I can go in obedience to what the Prophet Isaiah says in 55:12 "For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace…” When God is in it, this joy and peace will be in your spirit no matter what your head is saying.
This life is a journey and we are LEARNING to follow the Lord. Learning takes time and if we follow what the Scripture says to us, we can trust God with the unknown in our journey. Will we make mistakes? We probably will, but when our heart is right and we have truly asked the Holy Spirit to lead us, and we do not go fast, and we wait on the Lord, then joy will come with the decision, and peace will rule and reign in our hearts at all times.

I hope this helps; it sure helps me!

This is not a natural concept but a spiritual one and is only understood from our manual for success, the Bible! To be hidden in Christ, you must be born again or if you prefer, born from above!

We are pilgrims just passing through here to our eternal home, but during this journey we have a purpose and plan from our God to complete. Set before us are many paths with many gates. We choose which ones we open. We are not robots. We have a free will.

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.
