Truth Trumps Feelings

Dear Judy, I'm a believer and I read in the Bible that I am complete in Jesus, yet I don't feel complete. Everything in this world seems to be about family – a husband, children, grandkids – and since I don't have any of those, I don't feel I belong! That my life isn't counting for much. I keep thinking maybe I should move somewhere else, that it'll be better there. I'll finally belong, find my place in life. But will I really? Why do I have such an empty feeling? At the same time I feel guilty because I'm supposed to feel complete since I have the Lord . . . but I don't feel very complete.

Dear Feeling One,

The Scripture you are referring to is Colossians 2:10: “. . . you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.” This word complete means fulfilled because you have Him, Jesus, in your life and He is over all the works of the enemy. This is not talking about being fulfilled by people or things. You talk a lot about feeling and you are basing who you are by how you feel. This is WRONG thinking for a child of God.

Feelings are part of our soul realm — mind, will, emotions. Remember we are a spirit, have a soul (mind will emotion) and live in a body. When you received Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior, your spirit came alive! You are now living in eternal life, not eternal death! But your soul has to be renewed by the Word of God to know who you are, who Jesus is in your life, and how you should now live and think.

We get saved; then we have to change our thinking. The great Scripture to remember is Romans 12:2: And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…. This means we no longer think, act, look or feel like the world does. When we read the Bible it will change us from worldly to godly acting, looking and thinking. Having a husband and children can be wonderful, but it can also be a lot of heartache and work.

Family is not how we are fulfilled. We are fulfilled first and foremost because we belong to God and have purpose in Him and Him alone. Families break apart every day, sad to say. Circumstances change. But belonging to Christ is the MOST important fulfillment we can have, and an eternal one!

The Apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 13:11: Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Finally means at the end of it all or the final conclusion of his statements to us… Become complete. This means thoroughly equipped or perfection. He says become… meaning to be thoroughly equipped is a process and takes time. Notice “good comfort, one mind, peace” come after become complete.

As you read the Word and apply what it says to your life and do not allow your feelings to override what the Bible says about you, then fulfillment and equipping come. I have learned that feelings are just that and they change minute by minute, but Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever… He never changes, His truth for me never changes, His love never changes, and He is always with me. Truth trumps Feelings!

I go to church, and I also listen to services online. It seems to me there is a trend toward thinking that hell is not real. Is this true? Is there a real hell?

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.

We need to rise in gratefulness and thanksgiving to our Lord and Savior. We need to praise Him more than we ever have. Like no other time has it been more important that we be in our manual for success, the Bible. We need to know for a fact that if we should die today, we are going to heaven. Heaven and Hell are real,
