Two Paths—Choose the Right One

Dear Judy, I want to make the most of the New Year….. So many things look hopeless around me. I read my Bible and go to church. I have to admit I do not always like what I see fellow Christians doing or saying. Seems to be so much compromise, but is it my place to say something?

Dear Child of God,

You are so right about seeing so much compromise in the people of God. I would pray about what you are seeing. If it is against the Word of God, yes, it is your place say something if they ask you, and of course do not join in what they are doing. 1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner--not even to eat with such a person (1 Corinthians 5:11). Notice the word “brother” in this verse. This is not talking about the people who are not Christians, but those who are Christians. This verse always makes me sad.

A child of God should be showing the world we are different and not doing the same things as the people of the world are doing. But hopeless you are not nor are those around you who are true children of God. Why? Because we have a living Hope. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Peter 1:3).

You cannot stop others from compromising God’s Word but you and I have the ability to stop it in our own lives and to choose not to be with those who do compromise or are not living according to Scripture. All of us will mess up from time to time, but our Living Hope—Jesus--is faithful to forgive us of our sin (which means miss the mark) if we ask Him.

We need to do our best and let our light shine brightly in this very dark world. Never quit or give up on what you know is truth. Be fervent at all times, even in the midst of people who are choosing the wide path which leads to destruction. We choose the narrow path leading to life.

This is not a natural concept but a spiritual one and is only understood from our manual for success, the Bible! To be hidden in Christ, you must be born again or if you prefer, born from above!

We are pilgrims just passing through here to our eternal home, but during this journey we have a purpose and plan from our God to complete. Set before us are many paths with many gates. We choose which ones we open. We are not robots. We have a free will.

We need to be very aware we are living in the last of the last days. All around us we see so much evil. Our manual for success (Bible) is very clear about these days in which we are living. But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come. 2 Timothy 3:1 Perilous times means dangerous and morally corrupt.

This article is titled Food for Thought so why don’t we give some thought to our walk with the Lord as we close this year out. What have we learned from this year? What things do we want to change and not take into the coming year?
